How to Make a Merry Moose Wood-cut Ornament!

Merry Moose Wood Cut Ornament

I’m excited to share a simple tutorial showing you have to make a Merry Moose Wood-cut Ornament!

The adorable Merry Moose stamp set and coordinating Moose punch are a must-have in my book. They are great for creating Christmas themed projects of all types, but they are also great for nature and masculine themed cards.

Plus, think how awesome they would be for scrapbooking and memory keeping a trip to Yellowstone National park, a camping trip, or other outdoor adventure!

I kept this project simple because I wanted to be able to create a bunch without spending a lot of time. I also wanted the project to be simple enough for new stampers or kids to make, too!

Supplies for the Merry Moose Wood-cut Ornament:

To begin, you’ll use both the Merry Moose stamp set and the coordinating Moose Punch. Buy them together in the Merry Moose bundle and save 10%! (through January 4, 2021 only).

You’ll also need the Wood-cut ornament pieces. I purchased mine through Amazon and they were great quality, very affordable, and were delivered quickly! Link below.

First, start by stamping the moose outline in Early Espresso ink. Next, stamp the solid image with Crumb Cake ink. Since this is a clear photopolymer stamp set, it’s easy to line up the 2-Step stamping images. Make sure to hold the stamp to the wood cut piece for a couple seconds to let the ink really transfer well.

Second, create a mask to make it look like the moose is in front of the tree. The Masking Technique is an easy technique that you’ll want to use for many projects. The biggest tip for masking is to use the sticky edge of a sticky note to create the mask for your image. For this design, I punched the sticky note with the Moose Punch.

NOTE: You can get a full tutorial of the Masking Technique as a bonus when you join my newsletter list.

Lastly, cover the stamped moose image with the punched sticky note. Next, stamp the tree over the top of the sticky note using Shaded Spruce ink. Then, remove the sticky note mask you have a tree “behind” the moose – it’s stamping magic!

(To clarify, I forgot to take a photo of the mask on the project, so I added a new one…your mask will have the tree stamped on it, not be neat and clean like in the picture. 😉 Hopefully, you get the idea anyway!)
